Ice Service Research Projects (Previous)

Arctic Climate Change, Economy and Society (ACCESS)  was a European Project supported within the Ocean of Tomorrow call of the European Commission 7th Framework Programme : FP7-OCEAN-2010 for 4 years (2011-2015). The aim of this project was  is to assess climatic change impacts on marine transportation (including tourism), fisheries, marine mammals and the extraction of oil and gas in the Arctic Ocean. ACCESS is also focusing on Arctic governance and strategic policy options.

Sea ice downstream services for Arctic and Antarctic Users and Stakeholders (SIDARUS) was funded under the European Commission 7th Framework Programme: FP7-SPACE-2010-1 for three years (2011-2013), Grant agreement no. 262922. This project developed and implemented a set of sea ice downstream services in the area of climate research, marine safety and environmental monitoring for stakeholders and users in the Arctic and Antarctic.

Space-borne observations for detecting and forecasting sea ice cover extremes (SPICES) was funded by the EU Horizon 2020 Grant agreement ID: 640161 for three years (2015-2018). The main objective of this proposal was to develop new methods to retrieve sea ice parameters from existing (and imminent) satellite sensors to provide enhanced products for polar operators and prediction systems, specifically addressing extreme and unexpected conditions.
